St. Francis of Assisi

St. Francis of Assisi’s Feast Day is celebrated annually on October 4th and honors the life and legacy of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and the environment. St. Francis, born in 1181 in Assisi, Italy, is known for his deep love for all of God’s creations, especially animals, and his commitment to living a humble and simple life. He was the founder of the Franciscan Order and a powerful advocate for peace and care for nature.

The tradition of the Blessing of the Animals on St. Francis’s feast day stems from his belief that all creatures are a reflection of God’s divine love and should be treated with kindness and respect. On this day, many people bring their pets to churches around the world for a special blessing, honoring the important role that animals play in our lives. St. Francis's teachings inspire us to care for all living things and to strive for harmony with nature.
